Rally Saturday 22 July 2006
“The current illegal Israeli assault and blockade of Lebanon
repeats the ongoing terrorist tactics against Gaza
on a larger scale”, said NoWar spokesperson Stephen
Darley

The Israeli government and military, backed by the US,
is deliberately courting a wider war involving Syria, Iran
and perhaps the whole of the
Middle East”.

GOVERNMENT
FOLLOWS VIETNAM PATTERN IN IRAQ
The second anniversary of the invasion of
Iraq is approaching, and there is no end in sight to the occupation
and the deaths brought about by this war. NOWAR
spokesperson Mike Khizam said “the Federal government has
marked this date by committing 450 more troops to Iraq. This
is following the same bloody and futile path of
escalation its predecessors followed in Vietnam.
”NOWAR,
along with the global peace movement is marking the
anniversary, through a rally outside Alexander Downer and
Robert Hill’s office at 100 King William Street, Adelaide,
on Palm Sunday, 20th March at 12 noon. This comes as the
resistance in Iraq is becoming ever more effective, the false euphoria generated
by dubious elections is already fading, and anti-war sentiment
is growing within the US military itself. Recruitment targets are failing, war
resisters are rising in numbers, and the US government doesn’t dare evoke the spectre of
Vietnam further by bringing in conscription.

WAR ON FALLUJAH WHILE ARMISTICE DAY REMEMBERED
“While Australians today rightly remember the sacrifice of those who fell in the War to End All Wars, the lives of thousands of soldiers and civilians may be sacrificed as the Coalition forces in Iraq continue their offensive on the city of Fallujah”. NOWAR spokesperson, Anne McMenamin said that the assault on Fallujah launched this week will result in the senseless deaths of civilians and military personnel alike. “It is reported that most of the civilian population has fled the city. This may be so. However, this is what we were told in April when a similar assault took place. But we then learnt that over 600 civilians lost their lives and over 1,000 were wounded as a result of US fire power. People were burying the dead in the local soccer field because the cemeteries were full”.

Massacre in Fallujah: Massacre Threat in Najaf
Doctors in Fallujah hospitals estimate that over half of the mortalities of the recent US
attack on the city of Fallujah were women, children and old men. This makes nonsense of the US
Marine commanders claim (from outside the city) that "95%" of those killed were combatants. People
continue to die in Fallujah as a result of the US siege as we speak.

An international anti-war campaign that any driver can participate in has started in Adelaide.
Adelaide peace organization NOWAR SA is asking South Australians who are opposed to a war on Iraq to
turn on their car lights while driving during the day.
NOWAR SA spokesperson, Anne McMenamin said that people who participate should commence this action
on 25th January for the duration of the Australia Day long-weekend and beyond until it is clear that
the proposed war is called off. "In this way people can send a simple but effective message to John
Howard and the federal government that there is a groundswell of opposition to military action against
Iraq."

100,000 Nationwide as war looms
Anti-war organisers around Australia expect 100,000 to march in opposition to a war on Iraq this
weekend as the United States Government continues its war preparations. War in the Persian Gulf is
looking increasingly likely, as early as January or February, the Northern Hemisphere winter. The
Howard Governments withdrawal of SAS troops from Afghanistan and its strong support for George
Bush make Australian military involvement almost certain.
In Adelaide, NOWAR (the Network Opposing War And Racism) is organising a rally and march against war
to commence tomorrow, Saturday , November 30 at 11.00 am from Victoria Square.

SONG SAYS IT ALL.
The question all Australia wants to know – "Have you got the ticker Johnny, to say No to President Bush?"
This weekend thousands of people across Australia will be asking this question in song.
The song, written in Adelaide by the Green Choir, turns John Howard´s favourite word "ticker" back
on him. Last year he used it to taunt Kym Beazley. This year we ask it of him – has he got the ticker
to say No to President Bush, and to develop independent foreign policy that is genuinely in the interests
of Australia?
