Waiting til they burn you all

Waiting til they finish with you

Then we’ll go to the street

We’ll light candles

We’ll look contained and civilised

You will be dead

And we will cry

A knot within

Keep typing

Keep breathing

even though you may be not reading

you will read one day

a murder

a mass murder

perpetrated by holocaust victims

condemned to silence

people of the new world

I know you’re sharing my wait

....

peaceful friends

forgive my flame

wish me unnatural power

a magic stormy breath

to blow my anger on armies of hate

words

only words

keep waiting

Fayrouz

Dear friends,

I feel empty.  This morning my heart was boiling. I had angry words

bitter words.  I am not interested in saying them anymore.  I am trying to figure out why uncle refused to leave with the Red Cross convoy that managed to find him in Yaroun 4 days ago. I am sure he did not want to hurt his American children who are going beyond themselves in US to get him out.  I am sure he doesn't want to die either.  Perhaps he is still not getting it. Perhaps he still has some faith.

I do not know... Yaroun has been heavily bombed the last few hours. Private cars who had a trickle of petrol fled Rmeich in a long civil convoy seeking safer areas. A vehicle of the Lebanese Red Cross has managed to get some aid to Rmeich. What a relief!

My relatives there do not have any petrol to take them to Beirut, they

will stay in Rmeich, said the ones who managed to make it to Beirut. I suspect they do not want to get as well separated either from their

scarce belongings. Their fortune is within their walls, nothing else. Their income is hanging out to dry in the sun. They live out of planting and selling tobacco and this is the mad season usually.

I could imagine the tobacco plants getting brown and brown from the

bottom to the top. They have not collected any leaves for the last 17

days. There will be no more tobacco to sell in Autumn. There will be

much less money than usual if they managed to keep what they have

collected already before the "Israeli surgical intervention". Even for this little, they need to stay alive. I call my cousin forced to "holiday" in Beirut. The "lucky" one who took his family for a drive to see Beirut on the 12th of July. I tell him to hang on. The UN is pushing for a cease fire. Even China is asking for it now. I do not mention Mr Bush and Mr Blair saying to the world that this is the "right" way to solve the Lebanese/Israeli conflict, the Middle Eastern saga. I hope that he will not hear about the "clever bombs" sent once again by the US through Mr Blair's country...

This is it!  Maybe uncle Michael is cut completely of the news.   Anyway, it is not the first time Yaroun and its surroundings have been bombed and blown away.... It must be just a bit unusual to remain doing this so intensely for such a long time. He may have not heard yet about the Israeli plan to level the above Lebanese ground, to flatten the hills, to kill the people hiding in house basements... Who could imagine such a thing?  Humans could not do these kinds of things to fellow humans!  Could they be human!

I have to stop now.  I had promised not to harass you anymore.  But you are my safety shield.  I need you, they need you.

I pray for a miracle

Love

Fayrouz

Rally to protest The Israeli ASSAULT ON  Lebanon and Gaza

 12PM SATURDAY

 22 JULY

STEPS PARLIAMENT HOUSE ADELAIDE

This rally has been organized by NoWar, Australian Friends of Palestine, Members of the Lebanese Community and others to protest the assault on Gaza and Lebanon in the last several days.

Speakers will be drawn from the Lebanese and Palestinian communities of South Australia as well as from representatives of the parliament and university academics.

This tragedy grows with the hourly increase in the number of dead and injured Palestinian and Lebanese, as well as Israelis as Hezbollah hits back.  Appalling repeated aerial bombardments over Lebanon have destroyed buildings, power supplies, bridges, roads, and the international airport.  The harbour off Beirut is blockaded.  According to Robert Fisk, the British Journalist and author who has lived in Beirut for decades, whole families have been vaporized in their cars by Israeli aerial bombing into streets, roads and homes in the suburbs of the city.  25,000 Australian citizens, both Lebanon residents as well as visitors, are caught up in this dreadful onslaught.

Protest this appalling collective punishment!

Join with other South Australians in demanding that the Australian Government speak out against this escalation in the Middle East!

Come to the steps of Parliament House on Saturday to show solidarity with those people who are suffering this terrible situation.

Women's Protest in Jerusalem - 29 July 2006: Video spoken in Hebrew

On Saturday, we held an extraordinary mass march of "Women Against War" in Tel Aviv.  Women came from 17 sponsoring women’s organizations*, and we estimate about 3,000 participants (including men).  It was a dramatic sight marching through the streets dressed in black as a sign of mourning for the victims on both sides.  While the tabloids ignored us, Ha'aretz published a photo and detailed caption, and NRG, one of Israel's biggest news portals, told the whole story.  The Arabic press gave us front-page coverage, and some of the foreign press also captured the story.  This was an important action in a society in which the voices of women are always marginalized – and entirely erased during times of war.  Our gratitude to the Urgent Action Fund for helping make it possible.

For a real sense of the event, click into this 3.35 minute video done by "Social TV".  It's in Hebrew, but you’ll get the idea:

Footage of other recent protest marches can seen on "The Social TV" at

Soviet Katyusha rockets and their launchers

The original Katyusha was a Soviet weapon developed as long ago as the 1930s. Katyusha, or "little Katie" in Russian, was built for the Soviet Air Force in two variants. The 82-mm rocket carrying a fragmentation warhead was designed for use by fighter aircraft while a larger 132-mm rocket was built for bombers. By the time World War II started, these rockets had also been adapted for ground use aboard Multiple Rocket Launchers (MRLS).
